  • Make a schedule:  Something as simple as making a schedule will keep you on track and will let you know if you start to fall behind on the assignment.
  • Ask questions: Another way that students fail at their assignments is that they don’t follow the instructions.  If you don’t understand the instructions, ask for help or clarification.  This is another minuscule thing that you can do to prevent minimal points lost.

How To

Okay, so you are prepared and ready to start.  Where to begin?

  • Decide where you want your topic to go:  After selecting your topic, you need to figure out how you a going to approach the subject.  The type of paper can determine this, such as argumentative or analytical and can prepare you for the paper that you’re about to begin.
  • Brainstorming and Research:  Now that you know where your paper is going, start by brainstorming on ideas that you can use for your paper and researching them.  This will narrow down your subject.
  • Outline the subject: Once you have that subject and all the research is done, start outlining your paper.  Break it into the part of a research paper, Abstract, Introduction, Method, results, discussion, conclusion, and reference list.  Even just outline general ideas for this will make it easier once you sit down to start your first draft.
  • First draft: Start writing your first draft.  Writing the first draft can be hard but once you get that out you’re almost done.
  • Revising and proofreading: This can be a daunting task but it is very important part of the writing process.  Also have someone else read over, fresh eyes can find things that you might have missed.
  • Write the final draft: You’re on the home stretch, you have done everything to ensure that you paper will be perfect and all that is left is to write your final paper.

Writing a research paper can be a time consuming task but if you are prepared, it can make the process go a lot smoother.
